an Official BMW Club

The BMW Car Club GB has around 4111 members.

The BMW Car Club of Great Britain was founded in 1952 and celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2002 with a major event.

When founded, virtually all BMW cars in the UK were pre-1939 and the club's initial growth was slow. (Between 1935 and 1939 there had been a Frazer Nash & BMW Car Club in Great Britain, but it did not re-form after the 1939/1945 war). However, the recovery of BMW itself as a vehicle manufacturer, and the growing import of BMW's into the UK saw a considerable increase in club membership.

By the late 1970's Regions were formed across geographic areas of Great Britain, each with it's own elected Committee to look after the interests of members in those areas, and organise events. There are nine Regions, this includes one for the Republic of Ireland. Today the Club has about 4,000 members, which makes it the largest single BMW car club in Europe.

In addition to its Regions, the Club has various Registers to cater for particular models, such as the '02 Register, Coupes, E3, E30, 7 Series, and Z models. It has a strong and very active 'M' Power section, for all the 'M' cars, and an active Historic Section for all pre-1956 cars. All events - over 100 each year - are open to all members, regardless of which part of the Club is the organiser. Events include Track Days at different circuits, Concours d'Elegance, driving tests, and various social meetings. Members from Clubs in other European countries are always welcome.

The Club publishes a monthly 80 page magazine in full colour, "Straight Six".

In recent 3 consecutive years, the Club has won awards at the annual 'Classic and Sports Car Show' at the National Exhibition Centre for (2000) Best Car Club Magazine; (2001) Best Car Club Website; and in 2002, Best Car Club overall.

The Club is a non-profit making organisation, owned and run by and for its members. We now employ four staff at an office in Aberystwyth in Wales, one of the four countries that make up the UK.

Mr. Howard Walker is General Manager, with Alex Evans as Office Manager. Six directors run the Club Board. The Office is manned 09:30 to 16:30 hours, Monday to Friday. Annual membership is £40. The Club is a founder member of BCEF (BMW Clubs European Federation).
